John Stevens is an internationally acclaimed calligrapher, designer of logotypes & illustrator of expressive letterforms and type designer. John works on graphic design-based projects and does his own experimental personal work as well. During the past 30 years, John has worked for well known clients in book & magazine publishing, packaging, type design, graphic design, television & film. Clients have included: Time, Newsweek, Pepsi, NY Public Library, Yale, all the major publishers, packaging. John is also in demand to do one-of-a-kind commissions, for individuals and organizations. John is an in demand teacher having received invitations to teach his craft at National and International Calligraphy Conferences throughout the United States and several excursions to Europe and Japan. Originally from NY, he now lives in Winston-Salem, NC where he teaches at Cheerio Calligraphy Retreats (where he also serves as faculty advisor and marketing dir.) and has taught 6-month intensive study classes.
Johns' work has been published in numerous books internationally featuring The art of calligraphy and lettering.
He has recently completed a typeface for Linotype (collaboration with Ryuichi Tateno)called Stevens Titling. This brush roman typeface (font) was released by Linotype in 2011. His book "Scribe-Artist of the Written Word" is due out in early 2012.
