Biography
Zina Saunders has been a writer-illustrator for more than 15 years. Although her visual commentary has created stirs in periodicals like Time Magazine, Wall St. Journal, The Progressive, her scathing chronicling of Sarah Palin on the illustrators' blog, Drawger, brought her much acclaim.
In June 2005, Zina's focus shifted from general illustration to reportage illustration, when she wrote a story for "Time Out New York" magazine about the Puerto Rico Schwinn Club, an outgrowth of the Overlooked New York website, her series of interviews and portraits of impassioned New Yorkers. Overlooked New York was selected for the 3x3 ProShow Illustration Annual No. 4. Art Talks, her series of portraits and interviews with illustrators and art directors, was selected for the American Illustration 26 Annual. She also has a regular column called "Blackboard Heroes" in the teachers' magazine, "Instructor". Look for posters and ads with Zina's portrayal of Angela Lansbury and the other stars of Blythe Spirit coming to Broadway in February '09. Zina is an incredibly speedy artist, and so in spite of her multitude of assignments, she finds time to serve as an instructor at Philadelphia's University of the Arts and on the Board of Directors of the Society of Illustrators.
