The Italian masters and her first view of Michelangelo%u2019s %u201CDavid%u201D in Florence inspired Hofkin%u2019s life work, and inform her illustration and anatomical painting that is infused with warmth, energy, and life. Her fascination for the juxtaposition of the finished vs. the unfinished, the play of the essential and the peripheral, enlivens every assignment. This northern California artist has enjoyed a long career in advertising, corporate, and publishing work for clients including Mars Inc., The New York Times, Publix, 3M, Safeway, Chandon Winery, Gallo Winery, Meredith, Nycomed, ColgatePalmolive, Business Week, Falcon Investments, SmithKlineBeecham, McGrawHill, Sea World, Parke Davis, Hill%u2019s Pet, Kentucky Derby Museum, and Meade Johnson. Hofkin's fine art embodies her passion for antiquities and the human form, and a love of the Celtic sparked paintings for annual Caledonian Club of S. F. Highland Games. She earned a BA at the U of California, Berkeley; studied illustration at Art Center College of Design, Pasadena; received her MA in medical illustration at the U of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas; and freelanced in New York in the %u201880s before returning west. When she%u2019s not illustrating, she plays blues harmonica in area bands! She and her husband have two college-grad daughters.
